Rahul Becomes Laughing Stock With Demand for Jalebi Factory

Bhubaneswar: (Ajoy Kumar Misra) Congress’ top leader Rahul Gandhi has made himself a laughing stock demanding a ‘Jalebi’- a popular sweetmeat –factory in Haryana. His critics have found a major weapon with this demand as it proved his lack of knowledge on ground realities. It is not for the first time that he has done it. In the past also he has made several funny comments and has been the butt of jokes. Every time RaGa does things like the present one, the party seriously takes up ‘re-launching’ efforts to salvage whatever possible from the wreckages.

The Gandhi family scion has grown in confidence following party’s good show during the Lok Sabha polls—99 seats from 53 in the previous election. This has been touted as the charisma of Rahul by party leaders and failure of the saffron party with reduced majority. Rahul Gandhi is undeterred and continues to talk issues which make him the butt of jokes.

In the present case RaGa was addressing a rally in Haryana for the Assembly election. He cited the case of a famous ‘Jalebi’ maker of the area and said that he is unable to grow because of lack of funds to set up a factory and export his jalebis as all the money in the banks have been loaned to the Adanis or Ambanis. All Congress leaders on the dais were flabbergasted with this demand of the Gandhi family scion and the opposition was quick to grab the opportunity to chide the grand old party.

According to the opposition leaders, RaGa is unaware that jalebi cannot be preserved for long—in other words has no shelf value. “Exporting a commodity which has no shelf value is simply ridiculous as jalebis cannot be preserved in any manner. People like to eat jalebis fresh and would not touch it even after a few hours of its preparation,” they say. A supporter of BJP said that Rahul’s comment grows from his disconnect with the people and day-to-day life. “He was born with a silver spoon and has little knowledge about the country. Rahul’s comments are reflection of his hatred for Modi.”

He cited the story of a British official who reportedly had enquired as to how the sweet syrup was put inside the jalebi. RaGa will have to come down to our levels and shed the mentality that he was the wisest in the country, the elderly man quipped.
