Ragging Allegations at VSSUT Burla: Four Students Penalised After Inquiry

Bhubaneswar: Fresh allegations of ragging have surfaced at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Burla, located in Sambalpur district, prompting swift disciplinary action against four students.
According to reports, the incident occurred a few days ago near the university’s main gate. The accused, all senior students, allegedly targeted a first-year mechanical engineering student and mocked him over his clothes and footwear. During the incident, another student attempted to record the act on a mobile phone. The seniors reportedly objected to the recording and allegedly damaged the device.

Following the incident, the affected junior student lodged a formal complaint with the university authorities. Acting promptly, the institution’s anti-ragging cell initiated an inquiry and formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the matter.
After conducting a detailed probe, the committee found all four accused students guilty. Based on its findings, the university imposed penalties on the students. One student has been fined Rs 10,000, while the remaining three have been penalised Rs 5,000 each.
The university administration reiterated its strict zero-tolerance policy towards ragging and emphasised its commitment to ensuring a safe and respectful campus environment.
