Police-Magistrate Coordination Meeting Finalises Security Strategy for Rath Yatra 2026 in Puri

Puri: With the world-famous Rath Yatra 2026 just days away, Odisha Police and the district administration have stepped up preparations to ensure a safe, secure and seamless festival. A high-level Police-Magistrate Coordination Meeting was held in Puri to review the final security blueprint and administrative arrangements for the grand annual event.
The meeting focused on police deployment, traffic regulation, crowd management, emergency response, disaster preparedness and inter-departmental coordination. Senior officials stressed the need for flawless teamwork to facilitate the smooth movement of lakhs of devotees expected to converge on the holy town during the festival.

Reaffirming their commitment to a peaceful Rath Yatra, Odisha Police and the district administration said every possible measure has been taken to strengthen security. A three-tier security system, extensive CCTV surveillance, anti-drone technology, NSG support, bomb disposal squads, sniffer dog teams, Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and marine patrolling have been put in place to ensure an incident-free celebration.
Additional Director General of Police (Modernisation) Soumendra Priyadarshi, who has once again been entrusted with the overall charge of police arrangements for Rath Yatra and its associated rituals, urged officers to discharge their duties with dedication, professionalism and empathy. He instructed personnel to remain at their designated posts, maintain constant vigilance and ensure that every pilgrim returns home safely with a positive experience.
The meeting also emphasised effective coordination among police, civil administration, transport, health, fire services and other departments to guarantee uninterrupted rituals, efficient traffic movement and prompt emergency response throughout the festival.
With meticulous planning, advanced technology and coordinated policing, Odisha is preparing to host one of the world’s largest religious congregations while ensuring that Rath Yatra 2026 remains safe, secure and spiritually fulfilling for millions of devotees.
