Pangolin scales seized in Mayurbhanj, 6 arrested

(Reporters Today, Bhubaneswar): Forest department officials seized scales of three pangolins following raids at two villages under villages in Udala area of Mayurbhanj district last evening.

The officials also arrested six persons in this connection and seized two bikes from their possessions.

Acting on a tip-off about a deal, a team of forest department personnel conducted raids at Balichatra and Bundagadi villages. During the search operations, police arrested as many as six persons from the villages. Besides, police have also seized scales of three pangolins.

The accused had made a deal to smuggle the scales at Rs 7 lakh, sources said. A case has been registered against the accused persons under relevant Sections of the IPC and forwarded to court, sources said.
