OMFED Milk to Cost ₹2 More from October 4

Milk consumers in Odisha will have to pay more from October 4, as the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) has announced a ₹2-per-litre increase across its major milk varieties.

Under the revised rates, OMFED Premium will rise from ₹58 to ₹60 per litre, with the 500-ml packet priced at ₹30. OMFED Gold will cost ₹62 per litre, while Gold Plus will be sold at ₹66 per litre. The price of Toned milk has been revised to ₹58 per litre.

The decision was approved during a management committee meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of the OMFED chairman.

OMFED said higher fuel costs and increased expenses related to production and transportation have pushed up overall input costs. The federation had already raised the payment to milk producers by ₹2 per litre from September 9.

The latest consumer price revision comes despite an earlier assurance that the additional cost would be absorbed by OMFED rather than passed on to customers. This marks the second milk price increase by OMFED in five months. The federation had raised prices by ₹3–4 per litre in May.

The increase could also affect tea shops, eateries and other small businesses that use milk regularly, adding to their operating expenses.
