Odisha to Recruit 5,822 Doctors to Address Shortage in Hospitals

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to tackle the shortage of doctors in hospitals across Odisha, the State Government has directed the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) to initiate the recruitment process for 5,822 medical professionals, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling announced in the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

Responding to a query from BJP MLA Upasna Mohapatra (Brahmagiri), the minister revealed that 6,760 doctor positions remain vacant out of the state’s approved 19,984 posts. To address this gap, OPSC will soon issue recruitment advertisements, following the directive of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, he added.

The announcement came amid concerns raised by Mohapatra over inadequate healthcare services in her constituency. She highlighted that the Community Health Centre in Rebana Nuagaon is struggling due to a lack of permanent medical staff, while the Khajuria Primary Health Centre is functioning without a doctor, leaving residents with limited access to medical care.

Mahaling assured the Assembly that the upcoming recruitment drive will help strengthen healthcare services across the state and address critical shortages in hospitals and health centers.
