Odisha Police Launch Crackdown Ahead of Dussehra to Ensure Peaceful Festivities

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to maintain law and order during the upcoming Dussehra celebrations, Odisha Police have intensified their state-wide crackdown on criminals and anti-social elements.
Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania has instructed all Superintendents of Police (SPs) to take strict action against fugitives and individuals facing non-bailable arrest warrants. The move is part of efforts to ensure a peaceful festive season across the state.
As part of ‘Operation Drive Against Anti-Social’, police have drawn up a list of offenders to be arrested and are focusing on removing anti-social elements from districts and cities. The campaign is aimed at eliminating potential threats to public safety.
The crackdown has gained momentum under ‘Operation Prahar’, which has led to a series of significant seizures and arrests in recent weeks. So far, police have registered 110 cases and arrested 157 people.
The operation has also resulted in the seizure of 4,808 kg of marijuana, with 93 people arrested in 72 cases. In addition, 2,374 grams of brown sugar were seized, leading to the arrest of 45 people in 27 cases. Authorities also confiscated 3,052 bottles of cough syrup, arresting 19 individuals in connection with the illegal trade.
Further, 129 BNSS forces have taken action against 70 people, while the administration has sealed three shops accused of smuggling narcotics.
Officials said these proactive measures are expected to ensure a safe and joyful Dussehra celebration for people across Odisha.
