Odisha Govt Promotes Three IPS Officers to IG Rank

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has promoted three Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of the 2008 batch to the rank of Inspector General (IG) of Police, marking a significant administrative development in the state police cadre.

According to an official notification issued by the General Administration & Public Grievance Department on December 30, 2025, Dr Satyajit Naik, IPS (RR-2008), and Dr Umashankar Dash, IPS (RR-2008), have been elevated to the grade of Inspector General of Police in Level-14 of the Pay Matrix. The promotions will come into effect from January 1, 2026. Following their elevation, both officers have been allowed to continue in their present assignments on an in-situ basis until further orders are issued by the government.

In a separate notification, Shri Prakash R., IPS (RR-2008), who is presently serving on Central Deputation, has been granted a proforma promotion to the rank of Inspector General of Police. The proforma promotion has been accorded under the provisions of the IPS (Pay) Rules, 2016, ensuring that his career progression remains in line with his batchmates despite his current deputation at the Centre.

The promotion orders were issued with the approval of the Governor of Odisha and were signed by Debasis Singh, Additional Secretary to the Government of Odisha. Copies of the notification have been forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, and the Home Department of the Odisha government for information and necessary follow-up action.

The promotions are expected to strengthen the senior leadership of the Odisha Police and help enhance administrative efficiency and policing capabilities across the state.
