Naveen Patnaik Completes Digital Self-Enumeration for Census 2027

Bhubaneswar: Leader of the Opposition and BJD president Naveen Patnaik on Sunday completed his digital self-enumeration for Census 2027, marking his participation in the country’s newly introduced online census initiative.
Taking to social media platform X, Patnaik said he had taken part in the ‘Digital Census’ programme and completed the self-enumeration for Phase I of Census 2027, which focuses on houselisting and housing. He emphasized that accurate data collection would play a crucial role in shaping welfare plans in the future and urged citizens to actively participate in the process.

Phase I of Census 2027 began on April 1, 2026, and for the first time in India’s census history, the government has introduced a digital self-enumeration facility. This allows citizens to submit their household details online before enumerators visit their homes for verification.
The self-enumeration portal is currently being rolled out in a phased manner across eight states and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Along with Odisha, the facility is available in Karnataka, Goa, Lakshadweep, Mizoram, Sikkim, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and parts of Delhi. The 15-day self-enumeration window will be followed by a 30-day house-to-house survey in each region.
Officials said that by completing self-enumeration, residents directly contribute to generating accurate data on housing conditions, household amenities, and assets. This information is considered vital for effective planning, inclusive development programmes, and evidence-based governance.
Several top dignitaries, including President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, have already completed their self-enumeration, encouraging wider public participation. On the very first day of its launch, more than 55,000 households reportedly accessed the portal.
The second phase of Census 2027, which will involve population enumeration, is scheduled to begin in February 2027. The nationwide exercise aims to generate updated demographic, economic, and social data to guide policy-making over the next decade.
