Odisha CM Lays Foundation of Rs 65,000 Cr JSW Utkal Steel Project in Jagatsinghpur

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation stone of the JSW Utkal Steel Project at Dhinkia in Jagatsinghpur district, marking a landmark moment in the state’s industrial journey.
Industries Minister Sampad Swain and JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal joined the ceremony, which represents one of the largest private investments in Odisha. The project, with an estimated investment of Rs 65,000 crore, will establish a 13.2 MTPA integrated steel plant at Paradeep. Spread across 2,950 acres, the facility will leverage Odisha’s strategic coastal location, port connectivity, and logistics infrastructure to serve both domestic and global markets.
Chief Minister Majhi highlighted that the project reflects Odisha’s renewed industrial vision. He pointed out that earlier attempts by South Korean steel giant POSCO failed due to a lack of commitment from previous governments. He said JSW’s entry demonstrates confidence in Odisha’s policies and its potential as a manufacturing hub.
JSW leadership emphasised that the Paradeep plant will be developed in phases, with long-term plans to expand capacity in line with market demand. Sajjan Jindal described the project as a defining moment for JSW Steel’s growth and reaffirmed confidence in India’s manufacturing future.
The project aligns with Mission Purvodaya, the Government of India’s initiative to unlock eastern India’s industrial potential. Once operational, the facility will strengthen Odisha’s position as a steel hub and contribute significantly to India’s industrial transformation.
