Minor Boy’s Death Sparks Protest, Tension in Bhadrak’s Basudevpur

Bhadrak: Tension gripped the Basudevpur area of Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Sunday after a 15-year-old boy died at a community health centre, with family members alleging medical negligence.
The deceased, Mukesh Barik (15), son of Debakanta Barik, was a resident of Maliksahi village under Padmapur panchayat within Basudevpur police limits.

According to reports, Mukesh had injured his right leg while playing and was immediately rushed to the Basudevpur Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment. However, he reportedly died shortly after receiving primary medical care.
Following the incident, the boy’s family and locals accused the hospital staff of providing improper treatment, alleging that negligence led to his death. The allegations triggered widespread anger, resulting in a clash between the grieving family, locals, and police inside the hospital premises.
Protesters later staged a road blockade and burnt tyres, demanding strict action against those responsible for the alleged negligence.
Police personnel reached the spot promptly and managed to bring the situation under control.
An investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of death and verify the allegations raised by the family.
