Man, Mother Critically Injured in Acid Attack Over Old Rivalry in Kendrapara

Kendrapara: In a shocking incident triggered by a long-standing dispute, a man allegedly attacked his neighbour and the latter’s mother with acid in the Pattamundai area of Odisha’s Kendrapara district, leaving both victims critically injured.
The incident occurred in Bachara village under the jurisdiction of Pattamundai Adarsha Police Station. The accused has been identified as Bijay Sahu, while the victims are Rabindra Sahu and his mother, residents of the same village.

According to reports, the two families had an ongoing rivalry related to a house construction issue. On Monday, the dispute escalated into a heated argument and physical altercation. During the confrontation, the accused allegedly lost his temper and hurled acid at Rabindra Sahu. When Rabindra’s mother intervened to protect her son, she too was attacked with acid.
The accused is also alleged to have chased the injured mother and son with a sword, creating panic among villagers. Both victims suffered severe burn injuries. Hearing their cries, local residents rushed to the spot and rescued them.
The injured were initially admitted to the Pattamundai Sub-Divisional Health Centre but were later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack due to the critical nature of their condition.
Following the incident, Pattamundai police reached the scene and launched an investigation. The main accused, Bijay Sahu, has been detained for questioning, and police are recording statements of witnesses and collecting further evidence.
The brutal attack has sent shockwaves through Bachara village, raising concerns over the growing violence arising from personal disputes.
