Long range surface-to-air missile test-fired off Odisha coast successfully

Surjit kumar Dhal, Balasore, Jan 25: India on Thursday successfully test fired a long-range surface-to-air missile (LR-SAM) off the Odisha coast.

The missile, a product of a joint venture between India and Israel, was test-fired from a mobile launcher at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-Sea off the Balasore coast.

The missile includes a Multi-Functional Surveillance and Threat Alert Radar (MF STAR) system for detection, tracking and guidance.

Leading public sector undertakings (PSUs) like Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL), Bharat Electronics Ltd  (BEL), Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and TATA group of companies and other private industries have contributed to the development of a number of sub-systems, which have been put into use in the flight test.

The Indian Navy had also successfully test-fired the LR-SAM on the Western Seaboard by INS Kolkata on December 30, 2015.
