London: Britain’s King Charles III has written to President Droupadi Murmu, extending warm greetings on behalf of himself and Queen Camilla to the government and people of India on the occasion of the country’s 77th Republic Day, while lauding the enduring and close partnership between the two nations.

In his message, the King highlighted that the India-UK relationship is rooted in shared values and mutual respect, which form the foundation of the Commonwealth. He expressed pride in the role played by Commonwealth member countries in promoting understanding, cooperation and opportunities across the world.

Referring to the Commonwealth’s diversity and its younger generations, King Charles said they continue to inspire hope and progress. Emphasising unity during times of global uncertainty, he noted that collective strength within the Commonwealth is more important than ever. He also said he looks forward to the next Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting scheduled to be held in Antigua and Barbuda in November, where member nations will reaffirm shared commitments and outline a collective vision for the future.

The King also expressed anticipation for this year’s Commonwealth Games and congratulated India for securing the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.

Welcoming the deepening India-UK partnership in the areas of climate action and sustainability, King Charles praised cooperation on clean energy initiatives, climate finance, clean technology and green growth. He further commended India’s global leadership on climate issues, particularly initiatives such as the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.

Describing India as a powerful global voice on climate action, the King said the collaboration between the two countries reflects a shared resolve to build a prosperous, secure and sustainable world. Concluding the letter, King Charles and Queen Camilla conveyed their best wishes to President Murmu and the people of India for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead.

India is celebrating its 77th Republic Day, marking the adoption of the Constitution on January 26, 1950, which established the country as a sovereign democratic republic and reaffirmed the principles of justice, equality, liberty and fraternity.
