Journalist Harassed, Threatened During Coverage in Sambalpur

A journalist faced harassment and death threats while covering a religious event in Sambalpur district.


The incident occurred at Kunjaban under Sarapali Gram Panchayat in Naktideul block, where a Naam Yajna was underway.

According to reports, Himanshu Shekhar Sahu from Katarapali village drove a vehicle at high speed inside the restricted area and allegedly attempted to run over journalist Arupananda Nayak. He abused the reporter with foul language and threatened to kill him. Three others accompanied Sahu during the incident.

Committee members intervened and managed to control the situation temporarily. However, the accused youth continued issuing threats until late evening. On Friday morning, the journalist lodged a written complaint at Naktideul police station.

Police officials confirmed they are treating the matter seriously and have initiated an investigation. The incident has sparked concern among media professionals, who described it as an attack on press freedom.
