Heavy Rain Triggers Flood Threat in South Odisha

Heavy rainfall triggered by a depression over South Odisha has led to flood-like conditions in several parts of the state, with rising rivers and disrupted road connectivity.
Malkangiri has been among the worst-affected areas, where several bridges and roads are submerged. Water is flowing over parts of NH-326, while landslides and fallen trees have further hampered movement. Disaster response teams are engaged in clearing blocked routes.

Several rivers in southern Odisha are swelling due to continuous rain. Five sluice gates of the Indravati Dam have been opened to release excess water. Low-lying areas in parts of north Odisha are also facing a flood threat.
While authorities said there is no immediate danger from the Brahmani and Mahanadi rivers, the Budhabalanga, Bansadhara, Naluha and Rushikulya are flowing strongly. The Bansadhara has crossed the danger mark at Kashinagar.

The depression is weakening as it moves over land, but the IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in Malkangiri, Koraput and Kalahandi today.
