Flood Risk Rises in Mahanadi, Cuttack Administration Imposes Strict Restrictions

Barang: Continuous rain across Odisha has left all major rivers in spate. The water level in the Mahanadi is also running high. As of 9 AM today, 5.50 lakh cusecs of floodwater was flowing through Mundali barrage.
The water level at the upstream was 88.20 ft, while it was 86.00 ft downstream. At Naraj barrage, 2.77 lakh cusecs of floodwater was being discharged. The upstream level here was 25.55 meters and the downstream level was 22.25 meters.
In view of public safety, the Cuttack district administration has issued a set of strict restrictions.
The administration has barred fishermen from entering Mundali barrage and various branches of the Mahanadi. Restrictions have also been imposed on bathing, swimming, boating, taking selfies, and loitering near river banks and barrages. A ban has been placed on all kinds of fishing activities in the Mahanadi, its tributaries, and adjoining water bodies. Fishermen have been advised not to go near the river under any circumstances.
