Eastern Regional Agriculture Conference to Be Held in Bhubaneswar Today

Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, will organise the Eastern Regional Agriculture Conference in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, to discuss key issues related to the agriculture sector and farmers’ welfare.

The conference will be chaired by Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, agriculture ministers from various states, senior officials, scientists, farmer representatives, agricultural experts, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), startups, banks and other stakeholders are expected to attend the event.

According to officials, the conference aims to promote the overall development of the agriculture sector, enhance farmers’ income and strengthen coordination between the Centre and state governments.

During the conference, the progress of various schemes and programmes implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare will be reviewed. Discussions will also be held on several major issues concerning the agriculture sector.

Special focus areas include the progress of the farmer registry, opportunities in horticulture, the mission for self-reliance in pulses production, the National Mission on Edible Oils–Oilseeds (NMEO-OS), PM-AASHA, the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF), farm credit and issues related to the Kisan Credit Card.

The conference will also deliberate on measures to control fake pesticides and fertilisers, prevent black marketing of fertilisers, promote balanced fertiliser usage and encourage alternative fertilisers.

In addition, several states will present their successful agricultural initiatives and innovations. Odisha will showcase its agricultural extension initiatives, West Bengal will present best practices in seed production, Jharkhand will share experiences related to FPO-based value chains and agricultural startups, while Bihar will present its achievements in maize production and marketing.

Officials said the conference is expected to serve as a major platform for addressing challenges in the agriculture sector, sharing innovations and preparing future strategies for sustainable agricultural development.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is also scheduled to address the media after the conference.
