DGP asks SPs to pay special attention to functioning of Marine PS

Surjit Kumar Dhal, Cuttack, Sept 5: DGP BK Sharma has specifically asked the SPs to pay special attention to the functioning of the Marine Police Stations in their districts and strengthen it by means of manpower and other ways. Sharma’s directive came during a review of coastal security in the State with Superintendents of Police of seven coastal districts –Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Ganjam and Berhampur through video conferencing here. Additional DG Coastal Security & other senior officers attended the conference.
Sharma further directed that the Range IGP/DIGP and SPs visit the Marine Police Stations at least once every month and ensure their proper functioning. He said the SPs shall inspect Marine Police Stations on a regular basis and submit the inspection note to State Police Hdqrs. The SPs shall ask the IICs of Marine P.S to make extensive sea patrolling in their jurisdiction, he said. The technical staff deployed in the Marine Police Stations shall be utilised properly and effectively, the DGP said adding, the SPs shall ensure posting of adequate manpower in Marine Police Stations especially in the rank of constable and Home Guards.
“The SPs shall submit detailed proposal to IGP (Modernisation) relating to construction of office building, staff Qrtrs and other infrastructural development,” he said. Notably, the Cabinet Secretary will chair a meeting on “National Committee on strengthening Maritime & Coastal Security threat from the sea” to review the marine security activities through video conference on Thursday.
