Candidates touch elders’ feet to seek blessings

Reporterstoday, Sambalpur, April 17: May be after the election they will be treated useless. But these people are now ‘Bhagwan’ for the candidates in the fray in Sambalpur constituencies.
The voter is always ‘Bhagwan’ before the election. But those who are shunned by the elected representatives after polls are these days the most sought after and the candidates prostrate before them to seek their blessing to emerge victorious in the battle of ballots.
All most all the candidate have no hesitation in doing the act.
And all these senior citizens– of both the genders- feels elated when they find the candidates knocking their doors alighting from luxury cars.
These leaders are no miser in showering blessings on all the candidates.
Photographs of such people in the act during the electioneering are going viral in the social media and with comments too.
But, of course, all these are not just superfluous gestures. Some leaders get to know the grievances of several elders. one leader even wept hearing the woes of an elderly woman.
These apart, candidates of the political parties are seen doing their best to woo voters towards them and get their votes for the next five years.
“We know whom to vote. We are now capable of identifying the fair weather friends. All those who are coming to us are not worthy of getting our supports. Hence, we will select the best possible and the right candidate,” said several people who are not academically sound but
take interest in the electoral process.
“We are offered Rs. 300 to take part in meeting. There is also bargaining here as some people are demanding Rs. 500. At the same time, the food is also free of cost, but we avoid the rush,” said a good number of people attending political parties’ meetings.
Interestingly, the man or woman who carries the flag of one party on one day, is seen holding the flag of another party on another day.
Meeting organizers manage credit from their clients for showing a good gathering. No one is interested about the loyality or political affiliation of those who attend any meeting.
