Candidates intensify campaign in Paradip

Surjit Kumar Dhal,Paradip, April 19: Candidates of the three major parties—BJD, BJP and Congress – have intensified their campaign and trying to lure voters to their side in the Paradip Assembly constituency as the D-day approaches fast.

            BJD’s Sambit Routray, BJP candidate Sampad Swain and Congress nominee Arindam ‘Bapi’ Serkhel are sweating it out to woo voters in the constituency in scorching heat and humid weather.

            Paradip Assembly Constituency has two Blocks, seven panchayats and one Municipality with an electorate of 2, 31, 429.

Of this nearly 37,000 are in the Paradip Municipality area and all candidates are vying for their support to sail through.

According to sources, the three major parties have their pockets of influence and a triangular contest is on the cards.

The support of voters in the Municipality area will prove crucial for the victory of the candidates.

Congress candidate Arindum Sarkhel and his wife Deepa Sarkhel are focusing on various slum areas in the port town and receiving good response.

Sarkhel is associated with several local organisations and is confident of support of the voters in the Municipal area.

BJD candidate Sambit Routray is also not lagging behind and has united the party workers and local leaders to campaign in the municipality areas.

Paradip Municipal Chairperson Basant Biswal, union & BJD leader Santosh Pattnaik are with Sambit in the campaigning.

Similarly, BJP candidate Sampad Swain has the support of the party veterans and is hoping for a win.
