Bhitarkanika National Park Reopens for Tourists After Three-Month Closure

Bhubaneswar: Bhitarkanika National Park, one of Odisha’s most renowned wildlife destinations, has reopened to visitors from today after remaining closed for the annual crocodile breeding season.

The national park had been shut to both domestic and international tourists from May 1 to July 31 as part of the forest department’s annual conservation measures. The temporary closure is enforced every year to provide a safe and undisturbed environment for the breeding and nesting of saltwater crocodiles.

During the breeding season, female crocodiles become highly protective of their nests and display aggressive behaviour, particularly around creeks and riverbanks. To safeguard wildlife and prevent any risk to visitors, tourist entry is suspended throughout this period.

With the breeding season now over, the park has resumed normal operations. Tourist facilities, including boat services, watchtowers and entry gates, are once again open for visitors.

The forest department has also made it mandatory for all tourists to carry valid identity proof while entering the park. Authorities have urged visitors to follow park guidelines and cooperate with officials to ensure a safe and enjoyable wildlife experience.
