ASI under vigilance scanner for taking Rs 5,000 bribe to compromise a land dispute case

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance has arrested Akshaya Kumar Sethy, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at Nachuni Police Station in Khordha district for demanding and taking birbe of Rs 5,000 to compromise a land dispute case.

According to sources, the ASI of Nachuni Police Station has demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000/- to close a case registered at the PS over a land dispute which was compromised later by the two parties.

Sources narrated that the complainant had registered a case in the said PS against the opposite party in a land dispute matter. At the same time, the opposite party had also registered a case against the complainant. They soon reached a mutual understanding and decided to compromise on the same day by eveing.

However, Sri Sethy, ASI, who was the Investigating Officer of the cases, demanded bribe Rs.10,000/- ( Rs.5,000/- from each party) for finalising the cases at PS Level when they wanted to close the cases.

As the complt had to return to his workplace outside Odisha, he requested the ASI for quick disposal of his case. On this, ASI Sethy instructed him to bring an affidavit along with demanded bribe Rs.5,000/- on 10.07.2026, after which he would do the needful.

Aggrieved by the demanded bribe, the complt approached the Vigilance authorities. Upon receiving the information, a team of Odisha Vigilance swung into action and kept vigil on the ASI from a distance while he was taking the demanded bribe money.

However, after taking the bribe, on seeing the approaching Vigilance team, the ASI escaped from the spot on his motorcycle with the bribe money Rs.5000/-.

Following the incident, simultaneous searches have been launched at locations linked to Sri Sethy in presence of Nachuni PS officials.
