VSSUT Burla Introduces Mandatory Dress Code for First-Year Students

Sambalpur: Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, has announced a mandatory dress code for first-year students, effective from the 2025–26 academic session. The move aims to ensure uniformity, safety, and professionalism on campus.

According to an official notification issued on Wednesday, the rule will apply to all BTech first-year students, while postgraduate and PhD scholars are exempt.

Under the guidelines, male students will wear formal shirts and trousers, while female students can choose between formal shirts with trousers or salwar-kameez paired with a waistcoat. Dupattas have been excluded from the attire for safety reasons. The prescribed colours are navy blue for pants/salwars/waistcoats and sky blue for shirts.

The university has also displayed fabric swatches on the notice board to ensure students match the exact shades. Students must adhere to the new dress code by the end of August.

Previously, VSSUT had no formal clothing rules, allowing students to dress freely. The administration said the new policy is intended to foster a sense of community, remove social disparities, and encourage a professional environment on campus.
