Phulbani: Municipality Chairperson Loses No-Confidence Motion

Phulbani: Smitarani Mohanty, the chairperson of the Phulbani Municipality in Kandhamal district was removed from her post as a no-confidence motion moved against her was passed in a special meeting of the urban local body. According to reports, 10 councillors voted in favour of the non-confidence motion, while one vote was disqualified. Eleven out of total 13 councillors were present during the voting.

Phulbani Sub-Collector presided over the voting on the no-confidence on Tuesday. Most of the councillors of the Phulbani municipality alleged irregularities and bias by Mohanty. They proposed a no-confidence motion against her before the Kandhamal Collector. Mohanty of BJP had won the Municipality chairperson’s election held in March, 2022.
