Odisha’s First Model Convict Prison, Having School Inaugurated In Athagarh  

Cuttack (Reporters Today Bureau):  The first Model Convict Prison in Athagarh was inaugurated by Minister Rajendra Pratap Swain today. Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab attended the event as a Guest of Honour.

The Prison has provision for hospitals, schools, and other facilities. It is the first-of-its-kind in Odisha which was constructed by the Odisha State Police Housing Corporation out of the 13th FCA grants.

The new facility has an accommodation capacity of 500 Prisoners (450 males and 50 females). The provision for hospital building, industrial building, administrative building, school building, separate dining halls for male prisoners and female prisoners, kitchen complex, separate toilet blocks for male prisoners and female prisoners, and 12 cells for hardcore prisoners.

The expenditure for the project was worth Rs 11.83 crore and apart from this; the state government has sanctioned funds to the tune of Rs 3.03 crore towards staff quarters.
