CS for strict implementation of rules on solid waste management in wards, households

Surjit Kumar Dhal, Bhubaneswar, Sept 6: Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy has directed the officials to implement rules relating to solid waste in the State and undertake steps to create awareness at ward and individual households. Nearly 114 urban areas of Odisha generate 2,575 tonnes of solid waste per day. Every household in State produces about 300 grams of solid waste daily which is below the National average. The Chief Secretary in this meeting highlighted on raising awareness among citizens for appropriate disposal of solid waste. Senior officials present at the meeting were advised by the Chief Secretary to include solid waste management (SWM) in school syllabus.
The meeting also decided to involve the women self help groups in the collection of solid waste from houses. Tripathy directed the Forest and Environment and Urban Development Departments to ensure that more plastic in cement factory and roads. Among others, Forest & Environment Principal Secretary Mona Sharma, Revenue & Disaster Management Principal Secretarty Nikunja Dhal, Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Secretary Deoranjan Kumar Singh and Housing and Urban Development Secretary G Mathivathnan were present at the meeting.
