Minor girl found pregnant in Bhubaneswar hostel

Reporters Today, Bhubaneswar, July 2: The Commissionerate of Police has arrested a 22-year-old youth on charges of raping a minor girl of the government hostel here and impregnate her.

The accused has been identified as Budha Murmu of Salia Sahi under Nayapalli police limits here.

The girl was found pregnant during a routine check.

DCP Anup Sahoo said a complaint was filed by the victim’s father with the Mahila police following which a case was registered under Section 376 of the IPC.

The accused is alleged to have raped the minor girl while she had gone to her relative’s place at Salia Sahi during summer vacation.

Soon after the matter came to light, SC and ST Welfare Minister Jagannath Saraka had ordered a probe into the care.

A parallel investigation is being carried out by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Khurda.
