Heavy Rain Alert: Schools, Colleges Shut In Mayurbhanj As IMD Issues Red Warning

Bhubaneswar: With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a Red Warning for Mayurbhanj district, the district administration has announced the closure of all schools and colleges as a precautionary measure.

The IMD has forecast extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places in Mayurbhanj today, prompting the administration to take preventive steps amid the possibility of waterlogging and other rain-related risks.

The holiday applies to government and private educational institutions, including higher secondary schools across the district. The decision was taken by the District Collector keeping in view the prevailing weather conditions and the forecast of intense rainfall.

According to the IMD, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal today. The weather system is expected to trigger intense rainfall in several parts of Odisha, particularly in the northern and western regions.

Apart from Mayurbhanj, an Orange Warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Subarnapur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati and Ganjam districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated locations.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain cautious and follow weather-related advisories issued by the district administration.
