Goat Theft Bid Foiled in Kataka; Youth Rescued After Villagers Tie Him to Electric Pole

Kataka: Tension gripped Botalama village under the Banki police station limits in Kataka district on Tuesday after a youth, accused of attempting to steal goats, was allegedly tied to an electric pole and beaten by local residents.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when the youth allegedly entered the goat shed of a villager, identified as Gundicha Dalei. His alleged presence inside the shed was noticed by Dalei’s wife, who immediately shouted for help.

Hearing the commotion, villagers rushed to the spot and allegedly caught the youth before he could escape. Angry over what they claimed was an attempted livestock theft, some residents allegedly tied him to an electric pole and assaulted him.

Locals said the village has witnessed several theft incidents in recent months, leading to growing resentment among residents. The latest incident reportedly triggered an emotional reaction, with villagers taking matters into their own hands before police arrived.

After receiving information, a team from Banki police station reached the village, rescued the youth from the crowd and brought him to the police station for questioning.

Police have launched an investigation into the alleged attempted goat theft. They are also looking into the alleged assault on the youth and will take appropriate action based on the findings of the inquiry.
