Heavy Rain, Thunderstorm Alert for Odisha Till August 7; IMD Issues Orange Warning for Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar
Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to witness an intense spell of rain over the next three days as a persistent upper air cyclonic circulation over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Coastal Andhra Pradesh continues to influence the state’s weather, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.
The weather office has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the state, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, urging people to remain cautious.
On August 5, Mayurbhanj has been placed under an Orange Warning, indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Meanwhile, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam and Nayagarh are under a Yellow Warning for heavy rain.
The IMD has also predicted thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds of 30-40 kmph in several districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Boudh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam and Nayagarh.
The rain is expected to persist on August 6, with the Orange Warning extended to Mayurbhanj and Kendujhar, where isolated places may receive very heavy rainfall. Heavy rain is also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam, all of which remain under a Yellow Warning. Thunderstorms and gusty winds are also expected in these districts.
By August 7, the intensity of rainfall is likely to reduce, although Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj are still expected to receive heavy rain at isolated locations under a Yellow Warning. The IMD has further forecast thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds across Odisha on the day.
With the possibility of heavy showers and squally weather in several regions, the IMD has advised people to stay updated with official forecasts and follow safety advisories issued by district administrations.
