E-Challan mix-up: truck’s violation sent to Dzire owner

Bhubaneswar: A resident of Bhubaneswar has received a notice about a traffic violation by a car that, he claims, was not involved in the said violation.
According to Mithun Bisoy, a Sundarpada resident, he was left dumbfounded when his mobile phone pinged with a notice of e-challan in relation to a traffic violation
He claims it was carried out in Junkia, Khurda district, while his Maruti Suzuki Dzire was parked in Sundarpada on the day the violation supposedly took place.
Even more startling was that the picture accompanying the e-challan was of a truck, not his car, but issued in Mithun’s vehicle’s name, on his number.
Asserting that the episode is either a mistaken identity or a technical goof-up, Mithun has posed the question of how his car’s registration number came to be associated with that of a truck
He asked for cancellation of the erroneous challan, urging officials concerned to look into the matter.
The occurrence of such incidents throws light on possible lapses and reliability in automated traffic enforcement and verification before e-challan issuance.
