Heat Wave Intensifies Across Odisha; Jharsuguda Sizzles at 44.8°C

Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to reel under an intense heat wave on Tuesday as temperatures crossed the 40-degree Celsius mark in at least 18 places across the state, making life difficult for residents amid scorching weather conditions.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature in the state at a blistering 44.8°C. Hirakud followed closely with 44.0°C, while Sambalpur and Angul both registered 43.6°C.

Several other districts also witnessed extreme heat, with Boudh, Talcher and Sonepur each recording 43.0°C. Titlagarh registered 42.6°C, Bolangir 42.3°C and Nayagarh 42.2°C. Sundergarh recorded 41.9°C, while Bhavanipatna and Bargarh reported 41.8°C and 41.5°C respectively.
Coastal and urban regions were not spared either, as Bhadrak touched 41.0°C and the state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 40.2°C. Rourkela registered 40.1°C, while Parlakhemundi and Nuapada reported 40.0°C each.
The prolonged spell of extreme heat has sparked concerns over public health and daily life, with authorities urging people to remain cautious. Meteorologists have warned that the sweltering conditions are likely to persist over the next few days.
Residents have been advised to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of water, and take preventive measures to avoid heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses.
