Gold Shop Theft in Sambalpur: One Arrested

Sambalpur police arrested one accused and detained two minors for stealing gold and silver ornaments from a jewellery shop in Chipilima’s Kardola village under Burla police limits.


The arrested accused, Raju Nag (26) of the Kadampada area, faced court proceedings on Sunday after police registered Case No. 225/2026.

During a Sankirtan event on May 13, the shop remained closed. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused and his associates broke the asbestos roof and entered the shop. They looted gold and silver ornaments before fleeing. The next morning, shop owner Akshay Sahu discovered the theft and lodged a written complaint at the Burla police station.

Police launched an investigation, examined CCTV footage, and used technical methods to identify Raju Nag. Officers arrested him and detained two minor accomplices for questioning. Police recovered a gold‑weighing machine, 48 silver coins, 50 silver anklets for children, 42 silver mangalsutras, 15 silver anklets, 40 silver lockets, 12 silver medals, 550 grams of silver pieces, 12 gold lockets, and 11 gold nose pins.
