Two Accused Injured in Police Encounter in Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: Two accused persons sustained injuries during a police encounter near the Karlakhaman area under Belpahar police station limits in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district early Monday morning.
According to reports, the duo was allegedly involved in an assault incident on Sunday and had been absconding since then. Acting on specific intelligence regarding their whereabouts, police teams conducted a raid in the area in the early hours of Monday.
During the operation, the accused allegedly opened fire at the police team and fired four rounds in an attempt to escape. In retaliation and self-defence, the police fired back, leading to the encounter.
Belpahar IIC said both accused suffered bullet injuries to their legs during the exchange of fire. They were immediately shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
Police have launched a further investigation into the incident.
