One Youth Found Dead, Another Missing After Incident at Kuanria Dam in Nayagarh

Bhubaneswar: The body of one of the two youths who had gone missing at Kuanria Dam in the Dasapalla area of Nayagarh district was recovered on Friday morning, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Pradhan, a resident of a local village. The second youth is still missing, and search operations are ongoing.

According to reports, a group of around seven youths had gone to the dam on Thursday evening to catch fish. However, a sudden Kalabaisakhi storm, accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds, struck the area. While five of them managed to return safely, Pradeep and his friend went missing.

Fire service personnel, along with local police and divers, launched a search operation early Friday morning. After several hours of effort, Pradeep’s body was recovered from the dam.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and have initiated an investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, the search for the second missing youth continues with the help of firefighters and local volunteers. Family members of the victims are in a state of shock.
