Gunfire During Goat Theft Bid in Malkangiri; Two Arrested, Four on the Run

Malkangiri: A tense situation unfolded in Girkanpali village of Malkangiri district late Tuesday night after a group of thieves attempted to steal goats, triggering panic and a dramatic chase involving villagers and police.
According to reports, a six-member gang entered the village with the intent to steal livestock. However, alert villagers—already cautious due to previous theft incidents—noticed the suspicious movement and attempted to nab the intruders.
In a bid to escape, the accused reportedly opened fire, discharging at least three rounds from a pistol. Despite the gunfire, the villagers stood their ground and, with swift assistance from local police, launched a coordinated chase.
Following the pursuit, two members of the gang were apprehended, while four others managed to flee into nearby areas under the cover of darkness.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sujay Mandal of MV 123 village and Rahul Shikari of MPV 45 village.
Police have registered a case and begun interrogating the duo to gather further information about the remaining accused and to trace the firearm used in the incident. A manhunt has been launched to track down the absconding suspects.
