Odisha to Witness Five Days of Thunderstorms and Rain, IMD Issues Yellow Warning

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to experience a spell of unsettled weather over the next five days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate rainfall and widespread thunderstorm activity across the state.
According to the weather office, several districts are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, with speeds ranging between 30 kmph and 50 kmph.

The weather activity will begin with scattered rain and thunderstorms in coastal and interior districts till the morning of April 5. Areas such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, and Mayurbhanj are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, while hot and humid conditions may persist in some coastal pockets. Southern districts including Ganjam, Gajapati, and Rayagada may experience stronger thunderstorms with wind speeds reaching up to 50 kmph.
Between April 5 and April 6, thunderstorm activity is expected to spread further, affecting districts like Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Koraput, and Kalahandi, among others. Similar conditions are likely to continue on April 6 and 7, with lightning and gusty winds impacting both coastal and interior regions.
The intensity of the weather system is likely to peak between April 7 and April 8, when several districts across northern, coastal, and southern Odisha may experience thunderstorms with wind speeds of up to 50 kmph. Many other areas are also expected to record moderate winds of around 30–40 kmph.
On April 8 and 9, thunderstorm activity is expected to persist, particularly in northern and coastal parts of the state, while some regions in western and southern Odisha may see relatively less intense conditions.
The IMD has advised people to remain cautious during thunderstorms, avoid open areas during lightning strikes, and take necessary safety measures against strong winds.
