DGP Khurania Stresses Skill, Coordination at Police Workshop

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania on Thursday emphasized that professional competence, timely preparedness, and effective coordination are vital for delivering efficient police services to the public.
Inaugurating a one-day skill enhancement workshop at the Police Bhawan for officers of the Railway and Coastal Security wings, DGP Khurania urged participants to apply the knowledge gained in the field to further strengthen these crucial wings of the state police.
“Strengthening and modernising these units is one of our main priorities. Odisha Police is focusing on developing human resources, adopting advanced technology, and improving work efficiency,” said Khurania, adding that the state government is fully committed to making the Odisha Police one of the most modern and robust forces in the country.
Highlighting recent developments in coastal security, the DGP revealed that the state government has allocated ₹149.95 crore for strengthening maritime safety. “We have procured 10 drones for aerial surveillance and hired three fishing trawlers for operational use. Efforts are underway to induct fast interceptor boats this year,” he said.
He further informed that 140 Special Police Officers have been deployed at fish landing centres to enhance vigilance, while a state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre will soon be established in Bhubaneswar to monitor real-time feeds from marine vessels, drones, and sister agencies. Additionally, plans are in progress to bring 32 fishing ports and harbours under CCTV surveillance and procure new patrol boats for coastal monitoring.
The workshop brought together leading national experts as resource persons. Senior officers from all railway and marine police stations attended in person, while Superintendents of Police (SPs) and district officers joined virtually.
The sessions focused on cyber forensics, general forensics, coordination between the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and State Railway Police, and the adoption of new-age investigative tools and technologies to enhance operational effectiveness across the state.
