50 kg of plastic removed from cow’s stomach

Berhampur: At least 50 kg of plastic was removed from the stomach of a cow in Berhampur of Odisha on Tuesday. Veterinarians removed the large amount of polythene at the Veterinary hospital in Berhmapur. The plastic was removed after a 4-hour long surgery.

As per reports, the cow collapsed on the Badasahi-Hilapatana road 3 days ago after writhing in pain. Witnessing this the animal lovers informed the Veterinary through the Animal Helpline number.

After getting information, the health officials from Berhampur veterinary went to the spot and started treatment of the ailing cow. Later, a four hour long operation was conducted in which about 50 kg plastic was removed from the belly of the cow. Post the operation, the cow is now doing well health wise.

The state government had earlier banned plastic to avoid such accidents, but so far no results have been seen. Practically, the use of plastic is widespread while today’s incident is a burning example. However, this cow could be saved due to timely action by the animal lovers and the vets.
