17 Migrant Workers Rescued in Nuapada, Cases Registered Against Labour Middlemen

Nuapada: Sinapali police rescued 17 migrant workers, including young children, in two operations near Godal Chhak in Nuapada district while they were waiting for a bus to Hyderabad for work. All have been sent back to their respective homes following verification.

Acting on intelligence inputs, two police teams intercepted the workers and found that labour middlemen had allegedly lured them with promises of better earnings and employment in Telangana.

Police said the workers lacked mandatory travel documents and movement orders and had allegedly been denied statutory travel and displacement allowances.

Two separate cases (Nos. 363/26 and 364/26) have been registered under Sections 143(3) and 318(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 25 of the Inter-State Migrant Workmen Act, 1979.

Sinapali police station officer Maheswar Panigrahi said legal action was being initiated against the accused middlemen. Further investigation into the alleged illegal recruitment and transportation of migrant workers is underway.
