Youtuber arrested for killing and eating rare monitor lizard

Bhubaneswar: The Forest Department has taken strict action in the case of a youtuber killing a rare species of lizard monitor and eating it. He had later posted the video on social media which had went viral. The accused YouTuber has been arrested under Wildlife Protection Act.

As per reports, Rupa Naik of Ashanbani in Thakurmunda area of  Mayurbhanj district has been arrested. After catching the monitor lizard, the accused killed it and cooked it. She video recorded the entire process and posted it on social media.

This went viral on social media. Killing and cooking a rare species of animal is considered an offence under the Forest Protection Act.

Environmentalists had expressed concern over the incident. After this, the Thakurmunda Forest Department registered a case and started an investigation. Accordingly, the culprit YouTuber Rupa Naik has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
