Youth hacked to death during cricket match

Rayagada: In a ghastly incident, a youth was hacked to death by a group of unknown miscreants during a cricket match in Odisha’s Rayagada City in broad daylight on Wednesday.

One Rohit Kumar Thapa was reportedly playing cricket along with his friends on a field situated near the Rayagada Fire Station today. In the meantime, three persons, whose identities were not known immediately, reached the field on a bike and all of a sudden launched a murderous attack on Rohit.

The miscreants hacked the 25-year-old youth on different parts of his body multiple times and fled from the spot before anyone could identify them.

Rohit, on the other hand, fell to the ground profusely bleeding after getting grievous injuries on following the attack and died on the spot. His friends immediately intimated about the murder to the local police.

A team of cops rushed to the field after getting information and initiated an investigation into the crime. While the exact cause of Rohit’s murder is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that he was killed over a past enmity.

Cops sent Rohit’s body to the hospital for postmortem and questioned the youths who were playing along with the deceased youths to get some preliminary information about the incident. They also sought the co-operation of his family members and interrogated to get some lead in the murder case.

In order to trace and nab the culprits, police also have started a search operation throughout the city and are trying to collect the footages of CCTV cameras installed in the nearby locality of the spot of crime.

Meanwhile, Rohit’s murder and in the District Headquarter Town and that too in broad daylight has left the local residents, who were making merry in view of the Ganesh Puja celebration, to be in a state of shock and fear. They demanded police to arrest the accused persons at the earliest possible time.
