Women Resist Ganja Seizure in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: An intelligence tip from Andhra Pradesh has led to the discovery of large quantities of dry ganja allegedly stored in houses in a village along the Andhra Pradesh–Odisha border.
AP intelligence agencies, which have been tracking ganja cultivation, storage and trafficking for over two years, shared information with the AP EAGLE wing and Odisha Police. The inputs suggested that some houses were holding around 300–500 kg of dry ganja each.
Acting on the information, a police team led by the Chitrakonda SDPO conducted searches in the village around 10 am on October 4. Large stocks of ganja were reportedly found in several houses.

However, the seizure operation faced strong resistance from local women. According to sources, the women surrounded the police while carrying knives, axes and sickles. Some allegedly cut open bags of ganja that had already been seized and took the material back.
As tensions escalated, the police team withdrew without completing the seizure operation.
The incident comes amid intensified efforts by Andhra Pradesh authorities to curb ganja cultivation and trafficking along the AOB, with surveillance being strengthened from cultivation and storage to transportation and sale.
