Woman Injured in Firing Incident in Jharsuguda, Condition Stable

Bhubaneswar: A woman sustained a bullet injury after an unidentified miscreant allegedly opened fire at her in the Sarbahal area of Jharsuguda district on Friday night.

The victim has been identified as Biswabijayani Jena, wife of local transporter Dhirendra Maharana. According to reports, she was standing on the veranda of her house when the attacker fired at her, injuring her leg before fleeing the scene.

Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the spot and found her in pain. She was initially taken to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital and later shifted to Burla Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment. Her condition is reported to be stable.

On receiving information, Jharsuguda Town Police along with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) reached the spot and began an investigation to ascertain the motive behind the attack. The victim’s family has denied any prior enmity.

Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Gundala Reddy Raghavendra said police received information about the firing between 9:30 pm and 10 pm and immediately responded. He confirmed that the victim, originally from Sambalpur, resides in the Sarbahal area and sustained a bullet injury to her right upper thigh.

“The motive behind the attack is not yet clear. We are investigating all possible angles, including any past enmity,” the SP said.

Further investigation is underway.
