Woman Injured in Bus Accident, Road Blocked in Puri

Puri: Tension prevailed on Nabakalebara Road in Puri district on Friday after a woman was seriously injured in a road accident involving a bus, triggering protests by local residents.

According to reports, the incident occurred when a bus plying from the Jagannath Temple to Malatipatapur Bus Stand hit the woman. She sustained grievous injuries and was immediately rushed to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital by nearby residents.

Following the accident, angry locals staged a road blockade on Nabakalebara Road, disrupting vehicular movement. Protesters stopped buses and other vehicles and staged a sit-in, demanding immediate action against those responsible and raising concerns over frequent road safety lapses in the area.

On being informed about the situation, the City Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) along with personnel from Kumbharapada police station reached the spot. The police intervened to pacify the protesters and took steps to clear the road and restore normal traffic.
