Waves of 50 cm strike Japan’s Ishinomaki, over 9 lakh evacuated

Moscow/Japan: The earthquake of 8.8 magnitude that rattled Russia’s Kamchatka peninsula this morning triggered tsunami in the neighbouring islands of Russia’s Kuril and Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido along the California coast.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said that a tsunami wave measuring 50 centimetres (1.6 foot) struck Ishinomaki. The waves earlier were up to 30 cm. Over 900,000 have been evacuated. Residents in 133 Municipalities from hakkaido and Okinawa have been evacuated, though the exact numbers are yet to be released.
Several countries viz Hawaii, Oregon, Mexico, Peru, California have issued alert warnings urging the public to stay away from Pacific beaches.
Donald Trump informed that a Tsunami Watch is in effect for Alaska and Pacific Coast of the US.
In Japan, waves of 30 cm in Hokkaido and 10 cm in Kanagawa were recorded; waves up to 1 meter expected in southern regions.
“Second, third, and fourth waves could be bigger,” warned PM Shigeru Ishiba and urged continued vigilance.
