Water level in Subarnarekha river recedes but misery continues

Jaleswar: Water level in Subarnarekha river is receding gradually but the plight of the locals continues. The danger mark of Subarnarekha river is 10.36 metre while the level at Rajghat is 9.84 metre.
The water level has receded but the trouble for the locals has not ended yet. The farmers are facing innumerable troubles due to the clogged waters. For the sixth time, as many as 40 villages of eight Gram Panchayats under Baliapala block have been severely affected.
Along with this over 50 villages of 9 Gram Panchayats in Bhogarai block are also seized in water.
Twelve gates of Hirakud Dam were opened to discharge the excessive rainwater after heavy rainfall that caused the Mahanadi River to swell. Eight gates on the left and 4 gates on the right side have been opened. All total 12 gates have been opened to discharge the floodwater. The current water level in the Hirakud reservoir stands at 621.69 feet. The inflow into the dam is reported to be 2,13,627 cusecs, while the outflow is 2,24,670 cusecs.
Reportedly, the Hirakud Dam authorities had initially opened four more sluice gates to discharge accumulated rainwater bringing the total number of gates releasing floodwater to 12.
