Two Inter-State Burglars Arrested in New Delhi for Bhubaneswar Heist

Bhubaneswar: In a significant breakthrough, the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate has arrested two inter-state burglars from New Delhi in connection with a burglary that occurred in the Saheed Nagar area of Bhubaneswar on July 21.
The accused, identified as Khurshid Khan of Haryana and Mohammad Arif of Uttar Pradesh, were residing in Seemapuri, New Delhi, at the time of their arrest. Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh informed that the burglary took place between 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM at a government quarter while the house owner was away. The duo allegedly stole around 230 grams of gold jewellery in what officials described as a “highly professional” operation.
Based on digital surveillance and manual intelligence, a police team tracked the suspects to northeast Delhi and successfully apprehended them. During the operation, the police recovered ₹18 lakh in cash, believed to be the proceeds from selling the stolen gold.
According to Commissioner Singh, the accused are members of a larger burglary syndicate operating across several states, including Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Bihar.
“After committing the burglary, they escaped to Delhi and quickly disposed of the gold by melting and selling it at different locations,” Singh said, adding that further investigations are underway to uncover the entire network and recover more stolen assets.
