Two cousin brothers die of electrocution in Balasore

Balasore: In an unfortunate incident, two cousin brothers died due to electrocution at Kapasuda village under Jaleswar police station limits of Balasore district on Saturday.
One Rabindra Jena and his cousin brother Jagannath Jena reportedly left their houses at around 11 AM today and went to the paddy field to uproot weeds so that the paddy plants freely grow well.
However, unaware of the fact that some parts of their paddy field was charged with electricity as a live wire had fallen in it, they entered in it to work. Soon, they got electric shock and died instantly.
The matter came to the light only after some family members went to the paddy field to inquiry about Rabindra and Jagannath as they did not return home even though it was late and found both of them dead. Soon, they informed the villagers and Jaleswar police about the tragedy that sent a wave of shock and sadness in the locality.
“Rabindra and Jagannath went the paddy field around 11 AM to uproot the weeds but they died after getting electrocuted as they did not see the snapped live wire that had fallen in the field. We came to know about it only when we went there about 2 PM,” said Gangadhar Jena, the cousin brother of the deceased siblings.
The tragic incident also sparked outrage in the region as several locals alleged gross negligence on the part of the electricity department and demanded action against the concerned officials. The angry villagers also sought adequate compensation for the bereaved families of both Rabindra and Jagannath.
On being informed, a team of cops from the Jaleswar police started an investigation after reaching the spot. They sent the bodies for postmortem and are trying to know under what circumstances the live wire snapped and fell in the paddy field and subsequently claimed two valuable lives.
